This is the earliest primary source dedicated to the history of Badakhshan is the Tārīkh-i Badakhshān, a chronicle of the Yarids composed by Sang Muhammad Badakhshi in 1808 and later edited and updated in 1907 by an author named Fadl ʿAli Bek Surkh-Afsar, which is the version that survives today.
