The book (volume I) is a classic account of Aurel Stein’s 1906-08 second expedition to Chitral, Wakhan and Chinese Central Asia, incuding his discovery of the “Caves of the Thousand Buddhas” near Dunhuang China. Aurel Stein was a celebrated British archelogist, ethnographer, explorer and orientalist. His works on High Asia and Central Asia are worthwhile in exploring the unexplored remote region.
