A Viceroy’s India: Leaves from Lord Curzon’s Note-Book

Author: George Nathaniel Curzon

Published in 1984 by Shuckburgh Reynolds Limited, London

George Nathaniel, First Marquess Curzon of Kedleston, was India’s most celebrated and eloquent Viceroy, a position he held from 1899 to 1905. Later he was a member of Lloyd George’s war cabinet and Foreign Minister from 1919 to 1924. The pieces collected here are taken from two volumes of Curzon’s essays, Tales of Travel (1923) and Leaves from a Viceroy’s Notebook (published posthumously in 1926). The travelogue of Chitral in this collection was a result of his visit to the area in 1894 and was part of the later above-mentioned book.
